St Mirren have signed 23-year-old goalkeeper Zach Hemming on loan from Middlesbrough for the season ahead.
Hemming knows Scottish football well from having been at Kilmarnock for the last two seasons. He made 54 appearances across his two loan spells and kept 19 clean sheets. The Englishman has also had spells at Blyth Spartans, Darlington and Hartlepool.
He joins the Paisley side at a time when there’s uncertainty about first choice Trevor Carson’s future, and manager Stephen Robinson says he’s pleased to have brought him to the club.
Robinson told stmirren.com: “Zach is someone that we have been looking at for a while. We watched him at Kilmarnock and I know the goalkeeping coach at Middlesborough.
“We’ve had really good reports on Zach and we’ve seen him close hand so I’m very confident that he will come in and do well.
“He’s a young, enthusiastic goalkeeper and we’re delighted to have him in.”
Hemming said he got to know how St Mirren play last season and is keen to get started.
“I’m delighted to be here,” he said. “I remember seeing the team when I was at Kilmarnock and it seems very structured and everyone knows their role in the team.
“The manager knows how capable I am and what I can do so I just want to impress. I can’t wait to get going.”
