Star Wars Celebration’s Obi-Wan Kenobi Panel Announcement Stokes Hope For Season 2

0

Star Wars Celebration is expected to take a break after this year’s London Event, and many fans of the space saga are hoping for some big surprises and reveals. According to Variety, among the panels featuring at the event will be an Obi-Wan Kenobi session featuring Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen and Indira Varma, who are said to be talking exclusively about last year’s hit show. This has led to many people believing the panel could also be there to announce some big news about a potential second season of the series.

When Ewan McGregor returned to reprise his role as the iconic Jedi for a six-part Disney+ series after 20 years, it led to one of the longest awaited rematches in cinema history. Fans were given not one, but two showdowns between McGregor’s Kenobi and Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader, but as always that is not enough. Many fans immediately began to question whether there was more story to be told about Kenobi’s journey, and whether a second season could be on the cards.

Although there has been no indication so far from Lucasfilm that a second season is even being considered, that has never stopped fans from picking up on the smallest details and rumors and running with them. When it comes to a full panel being set up to talk about a series that wrapped up almost a year ago, it does seem perhaps a little odd considering the potential new projects that are rumored to be on the horizon for the Star Wars franchise including new movies and multiple TV shows. This could certainly suggest that there is more to the purpose of the panel than meets the eye.

The prospect of a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi reared its head in January this year, when McGregor and Christensen spoke at the Disney Studio Awards, and the former addressed how much he enjoyed returning to the role after two decades and would be more than happy to do it again if the option was on the table. He said at the time:

“I was so happy to do it again, and so happy to work with Hayden again, and I hope we get the chance to do it again. In the old days, I would joke about, ‘There must be a good story to tell between ‘Episode III’ and ‘VI’.’ But, it’s true. I always felt that there was. I feel like Deborah Chow found it and absolutely nailed it. Like just found the story that we wanted to see between the last one that we did and first that was done in [1977]… And I think it just adds to our knowledge of the characters, and it’s satisfying… for the fans.”

There is currently a lot of talk about where the Star Wars franchise can go in terms of big screen movies, and it almost seemed like Lucasfilm were ready to pull back on their TV shows in order to stretch into a new era of Star Wars beyond the Skywalker Saga. Whether that is the case is something that will likely be revealed next month when Star Wars Celebration kicks off in London on April 7.
