Starbird brings Bay Area chicken to Southern California

Starbird has opened its first Southern California restaurant in Hermosa Beach.

The Bay Area-based fast food chain specializes in crispy chicken for health-conscious diners. It entered the market last winter with two pop-up kitchens in the South Bay.

Starbird describes its chicken as never frozen and antibiotics-free. Its menu includes wings, tacos, sandwiches and salads. Sides include fries, slaw and chicken tenders with churros. Beverages include craft sodas and house-made lemonade.

The chain opened its first restaurant in Sunnyvale in 2016. It was founded by Aaron Noveshen, who was also behind a food and beverage consulting firm called The Culinary Edge. At the time, he predicted there was room for growth in the fried chicken market, which has played out.

The restaurant is at 429 Pacific Coast Highway, Hermosa Beach.
