Starfield Showcase Rumored to Be Announced Next Week

0

It is no surprise that Starfield is currently the most wishlisted game on Steam. It is the first new IP conceived by Bethesda Game Studios, the developer behind megahit franchises like Elder Scrolls and Fallout, in the last twenty-five years. It’s also their first to be set in a sci-fi universe, which they described as ‘Nasapunk’ to convey the idea of a relatively grounded spacefaring future.

The open world roleplaying game was originally scheduled to launch on November 11th, 2022, on the eleventh anniversary of the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Bethesda Game Studios’ best-selling game to date. Starfield was, however, delayed to the first half of 2023 alongside Arkane’s Redfall. While the latter game has now been reconfirmed for a May 2nd release date after the gameplay reveal during January’s Bethesda and Xbox Developer Direct, Starfield fans are still waiting to get their own gameplay overview, which was confirmed to be coming separately from the aforementioned Developer Direct.

The wait for the Starfield gameplay showcase’s date could end shortly, however, according to the latest rumors. A few hours ago, Andy Robinson from VideoGamesChronicle tweeted that the announcement was due shortly. During the latest Xbox Two podcast episode, Jez Corden from Windows Central added that the showcase would be announced next week.

They didn’t say anything about the actual date, but it stands to reason that the Starfield gameplay showcase may happen sometime in March. Likely, the event will also include the new release date for Bethesda’s space epic. It’ll be interesting to find out whether BGS can hold on to the promise of launching before the end of the first half of the year, though that would put the game in competition with long-awaited triple-A releases such as Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (due May 26th), CAPCOM’s Street Fighter 6 (due June 2nd), Blizzard’s Diablo IV (due June 6th), and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XVI (due June 22nd). Starfield does have an advantage over all these games: it’ll be available from day one to all Game Pass subscribers on PC and Xbox Series S|X, just like every Bethesda/Xbox first-party game.

While the gameplay showcase will likely be in-depth and very long (the Fallout 4 presentation by Todd Howard clocked in at nearly 35 minutes), we already got a decent look at Starfield gameplay thanks to the 15-minute segment aired at last year’s Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase. We’ve since gathered every scrap of information about the game in this roundup article.
