BRITISH staycations are in peril because of soaring inflation with the cost of camping and BBQs rocketing.

With the nation set to bake, summer grub prices rocket, with bangers up 13 per cent, burgers now eight per cent more, and cheddar costing 15 per cent extra.

Ketchup has rocketed by 13 per cent while Mayo has soared by 23 per cent.

Camping hols have also gone up a whopping 23 per cent.
Labour made the dire warning today (TUES) after analysing official inflation stats from the Office of National Statistics.

Labour’s Shadow Tourism Minister Jeff Smith said: “The Conservative cost of living crisis is hitting families in the pocket; with the cost of camping trips and holiday parks soaring as a result of economic mismanagement.

“Instead of a summer of BBQ fun, families are cutting back as the pound in their pocket is worth less.

He added the “continuity Conservative leadership candidates don’t understand the challenges facing ordinary families trying to enjoy traditional British summer pursuits.

“They offer no growth and no hope of an economy that works for ordinary people.”

Yesterday Downing Street rejected a call by ex-PM Gordon Brown to call emergency meetings to address the cost-of-living crisis.

Boris Johnson’s official spokesman said he would be speaking to Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi to ensure that support measures due to come into effect later in the year remained on track.

He said: “Clearly these global pressures mean challenging times for the public.

“That is why, at the start of the summer, we introduced a number of measures to help the public. Clearly some of the global pressures have increased since that was announced.

But he added any new measures to help squeezed Brits would be up to a “future prime minister.”
