The Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat are tied at 1-1 in the NBA Finals. Nuggets star and two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokić has played very well in the series, nearly averaging a triple double across both games.

On Tuesday’s edition of ESPN’s First Take, Stephen A. Smith attempted to discuss the topic of the most difficult player to guard in the NBA. Jokic was mentioned, but Smith objected to the claim.

“I understand that this big tub of lard that can’t jump on to a curb is unstoppable,” Smith said. I love Nikola Jokic, It’s unbelievable to watch him… He ain’t harder to guard than Stephen Curry.”

Smith making his point on Curry was one thing, but the sports world pushed back at his disrespectful comment about Jokic.

“You can’t compliment a guy by starting out calling him a ‘Tub of lard that can’t jump on a curb’,” one fan said. “No matter how you follow that statement, it’s backhanded.”

“Would you like to apologize to Jokic for calling him a ‘tub of lard’ before the show ends,” another fan asked.

“The older I get the more I realize why basketball discussion is dry and brain dead at times,” one fan said. “Best Player in the world today and ESPN #1 guy consistently calls him a Big Tub Of Lard.”

We’ll see what happens following Smith’s controversial comment.
