NBA free agency begins on Friday, and everyone is waiting to see what James Harden will do.
Harden, a 10-time All-Star who led the league in assists this season, is expected to re-sign with the Philadelphia 76ers. It’s where he could make the most money and remain in playoff contention alongside 2023 league MVP Joel Embiid.
If Harden does elect to leave, the Houston Rockets are reportedly interested in a reunion. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith discussed the situation during his show on Wednesday.
“From what I’m told (76ers new head coach), Nick Nurse has spent some time in Houston desperately wanting Harden to return as a Sixer,” Smith said.
“Harden, according to numerous reports, doesn’t want to be in Philadelphia, wants out of Philadelphia, and would like to go back to Houston where he starred for about nine seasons, winning a few scoring titles and a league MVP.”
Smith said Harden is hurting his stock for his willingness to return to Houston, a non-championship contender that finished last season tied for the second-worst record in the Western Conference.
