Stephen A. Smith has never been shy about voicing his opinion, and that is especially true when it comes to Dallas Mavericks point guard Kyrie Irving.

Smith has been critical of Irving several times over the last few years, notably when it comes to the issue of how much he believes Irving should be paid.

The amount of games that Irving has missed – whether it be for injury, suspension or otherwise – is a point of contention for Smith, who feels that Irving should not get a max contract in free agency.

The topic of Irving’s free agency was brought up on Friday’s episode of Get Up, as Smith gave his opinion on what he thinks the eight-time All-Star should do.

“Respectfully, to Kyrie Irving, who doesn’t want us talking about him – don’t play basketball,” Smith said.

Irving recently addressed the speculation around his upcoming free agency, adding that he simply would prefer to stop hearing about it while the NBA playoffs were still going on.

Irving noted that he is excited about being a free agent, and there should be several teams that look to bring him in.

Whatever team decides to sign Irving may have to deal with some of the controversy he brings, but as one of the best offensive talents of his generation, he may be worth the risk.
