Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is used to holding up the Larry O’Brien Trophy when his team is healthy. But last year saw Golden State get bounced in the second round by the Los Angeles Lakers.
On top of that, the Draymond Green punch caused a clear fracture in the locker room between the established vets and the young guys.
Reflecting on this past season, Kerr admitted that he “failed in connecting” his team. Telling The Mercury News:
Steve Kerr says he “failed in connecting” the 2022–23 Warriors https://t.co/nCBTIEjQz4

I will say that I feel like I failed last year in connecting the group. I have taken a lot of time this summer to think about last year, things I could have and should have done differently.
… I really believe that sometimes losing sort of forces you to reassess and reevaluate and I’m excited about coming back next year with a renewed focus and energy and spirit from the entire group. And that starts with me and I can’t wait.
The Warriors have won four NBA championships in Kerr’s nine years as head coach. Separating Jordan Poole and Draymond Green seemed almost inevitable. And now that Poole will get a fresh start elsewhere, it seems like the Dubs will do the same.
