She’s been smashed from head to toe over her infamous Logies speech but Lisa Wilkinson does have one ally.
Network 10 has hit back at “unfair” criticism of its TV star and threatened legal action on her behalf.
“Recent reporting on Lisa Wilkinson by some media organisations has been inaccurate and unfair,” it said in a statement.
“There are significant facts that cannot be disclosed until after the trial has concluded.
“This reporting is now causing significant harm and we ask these organisations to cease this harassment to allow Lisa the best opportunity to give her evidence in court and to enable the trial to go ahead in a fair and timely manner.
“We are closely monitoring all coverage of this issue and Lisa and Network 10 reserve their rights in respect of any future defamation claims.
“Network 10 continues to fully support Lisa in her ongoing and full commitment to doing the right thing as a witness in the trial.”
Ten’s defence of The Project host, who did not appear on the show on Thursday night — it is believed she has relieved herself from the program for several days — comes after various media stars lashed out at Wilkinson.
Her former colleague, ex-weatherman Tim Bailey has been particularly scathing, accusing Wilkinson of having a “big head”.
He tweeted: “Pull ya head in. I know this might be difficult, because it is a very big head. But please try.”
Bailey followed it up with another post: “Just accept ya F-ing little trophy and F off! Good advice, yeah?”
Sydney Channel 10 news anchor Sandra Sully also made her feelings felt on the issue, liking a tweet from showbusiness reporter Peter Ford blasting Wilkinson’s speech.
“Such serious consequences from Lisa Wilkinson … if only she’d stuck to silly stories like the paparazzi who stalked her in Chapel St,” he posted.
Channel 7 Sunrise host Natalie Barr also stuck the boot into Wilkinson, saying she should have run her speech past lawyers.
Wilkinson caused the trial of Bruce Lehrmann, the man accused of raping Brittany Higgins, to be delayed after overstepping the mark in her speech while accepting the Logie on Sunday for her interview with the former Liberal staffer in January 2021.
ACT Supreme Court Justice Lucy McCallum said Wilkinson’s speech “completely obliterated” the line between allegation and guilt of the alleged sexual assault in Parliament House in Canberra on March 22, 2019.
The trial was to start on June 27 but will now begin on October 4. It is listed for four weeks.
