Stop what you’re doing: the thumbprint eyeliner trend is back (and we couldn’t be happier)

If you’re looking for a sign to upgrade your signature cat eyeliner, allow us to reintroduce you to thumbprint eyeliner: it’s blockier, bolder sister. Thumbprint eyeliner was spotted doing the rounds back in 2018 when the likes of Gigi and Bella Hadid, Lady Gaga, and Karlie Kloss all sported the look – on and off the catwalk.

And who better to bring it back into the mainstream than the latest IT girl, Julia Fox? The actress, who has famously been dating (and matching outfits with) Kanye West over the past few weeks, attended the Kenzo Men’s AW show in Paris with a graphic winged eyeliner so bold that we couldn’t take our eyes off her.

The stunning look was created by legendary makeup artist, Pat McGrath who shared the look to Instagram, writing, “GRAPHIC WINGED GLAMOUR on the SENSATIONAL @juliafox,” and providing a list of the various Pat McGrath products (the PermaPrecision Liquid Eyeliner features heavily) used to create the striking look.

Speaking of high fashion, at the Chanel Spring Couture runway on 25 January, models walked the runway with dramatic, smokey-black eyes and, of course, thumbprint eyeliner. Vogue note that the makeup was “inspired by the pre-war era’s avant-garde creatives.”
