Stranger Things season 5 delayed as latest writers strike casualty

Stranger Things season 5 has officially been delayed – as writers continue to fight for better pay and work conditions in the US.

The Netflix fan favourite is getting ready for its fifth and final season, with the team being hard at work for the past eight months in the writers’ room.

However, with the Writers Guild of America strike coming into effect, pre-production on the show has ground to a halt as writers hit the picket lines.

Show creators The Duffer Brothers have confirmed the news online.

Taking to the writers’ room Twitter to share a statement in support of the strike, The Duffer Brothers shows their solidarity with striking writers by using hashtag #wgastrong and aired hopes of an agreement being made soon.

They wrote on the @strangerwriters page: “Duffers here. Writing does not stop when filming begins. While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike.

“We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then — over and out.”

Stranger Things is the latest in a huge number of shows that have been effected by the writers strike – which currently has no end date in sight.

In the wake of this, late night shows have been cancelled, production on shows has stalled, and pickets have emerged outside the major studio lots and offices in New York and Los Angeles.

Stars including Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein, Rob Lowe, SNL’s Bowen Yang, Sex And The City’s Cynthia Nixon, Josh Gad and Clark Gregg have been among those appearing on the picket lines.

The writers are demanding a better pay and a better deal in light of the sudden surge of streaming services.

On some picket lines, protesters signs are declaring “We can’t Netflix and Chill if we can’t pay the bills”.

The strike has been given widespread support from the industry at large, with many celebrities stating they would be unable to perform if it wasn’t for the work at the writers.

Pete Davidson brought picketers pizza in New York, while Jay Leno was seen handing out donuts and coffee to those outside the Disney Studios in LA.
