Streets of cars issued parking fine warnings after new 2022 driving law change

Photos from a local resident showed streets full of cars with what appeared to be yellow parking stickers. However, it is understood the notices are instead just a warning explaining a fine could soon be issued under the new driving laws.

The new rule means drivers are no longer allowed to park on single yellow lines on Sunday.

Last Sunday was the first day where the rule was introduced by the council, with many motorists still unaware of the changes.

Resident Graham Pristo photographed a bunch of cars all lined up on a street with penalty stickers applied.

Posting on Twitter, he said: “Nine vehicles in row all with parking tickets.

“It’s the first time in eight years that we have increased our permit charges, the new system makes charging fairer and rebalances parking provision in favour of residents.”

The updates are not the only updates set to come into effect this month.

Bath and North East Somerset Council will also launch a new residents parking scheme in Lyncombe Vale.

The new rules will help tackle commuter traffic in the area and improve air pollution levels.

The changes will mean residents “have more chance of parking near their homes”.

There will also be “less through traffic from commuters” which will boost air quality.

The new scheme will launch from January 20, 2022 with residents encouraged to buy parking permits as soon as possible.
