Already thinking about summer vacation? You’re not alone.
A recent American Express travel poll revealed more than 50% of people surveyed are already thinking about summer vacation plans.
If international travel is on your list for next summer, some U.S. airlines are focusing new routes and flights to Europe, said CBS News Travel Editor Peter Greenberg.
“When an airline announces a new route, they do a lot of introductory discount fares,” he said. “Jump on those. You will see a lot of them happen between now and the end of February.”
Another factor to consider for travel next summer: The U.S. dollar is strong.
“It creates an opportunity to get, essentially, a 30% to 40% discount on total expenses on a trip,” Greenberg said. “A dinner in Turkey will cost about 40% less than anywhere else. The actual savings is tangible.”
For many other places, Greenberg said, just look for now and wait to book.
“The sweet spot for travel, unless it’s a particular holiday or it’s high season, is 54 days out,” he said. “It’s always a good time to look. But, right now is not a good time to book for the summer.”
