HAVING a family day out when the weather gets warmer can sometimes be a battle.
Popular beaches and attractions can be packed out making it tricky to relax.
But travel experts Verdant Leisure have picked out some of Scotland’s hidden gems so day-trippers and staycationers can avoid the hustle and bustle.
Verdant’s travel experts say for those looking for UK breaks, recent data has revealed that Scotland is this summer’s must-visit destination, with beaches, countryside and historical landmarks just some of the attractions the country has to offer travellers.
And their number one hidden gem beach is Pease Bay, near Dunbar.
Less than an hour from Edinburgh, the coastal spot has a beautiful sandy beach and is surrounded by striking red sandstone cliffs.
There are some beautiful walks, including a short wander from the bay to Pease Dean Wildlife Reserve, home to plant and animal life including bats and deer.
Meanwhile, the beach’s exposed position makes it ideal for surfing.
Dunbar, which is around 15 minutes away, is ideal for a bite to eat after a wander along the coast.
Francesca added: “Only a stone’s throw away from Edinburgh, Pease Bay is a stretch of sandy beach and sandstone cliffs in the Scottish Borders region.
“It’s a prime surfing location as well as a Scottish Wildlife Trust Reserve, so offers plenty of exploring for budding surfers, a family day out or a relaxed day on the sand.”
