‘Stunning’ UK destinations named best in the world for 2022 travel – ‘beautiful place’

National Geographic Traveller (UK) has named its annual list of the 35 must-see destinations for 2022. There were five lists: Nature, Adventure, Culture, Sustainability and Family.

The UK missed out on the Sustainability and Adventure lists, but it made it on the Culture, Nature and Family lists.

Destinations on the list were nominated and researched by National Geographic’s international teams.

Pat Riddell, editor of National Geographic Traveller (UK), said: “Whether it’s closer to home, exploring the UK and Europe, or focusing on journeys further afield to destinations that highlight sustainable, environmental and community initiatives, this year’s list gives us an opportunity to celebrate the world as we begin to emerge from the pandemic.

“These 35 destinations are a good starting place to plan your trips for 2022 and beyond.”

On the culture list and nominated by National Geographic Travel US was Tin Pan Alley in London.

Tin Pan Alley is in fact the blue plaqued Denmark Street.

The street is known the world over for being the best place to buy musical instruments in London.

On Tripadvisor, Nellie Lim said: “Hopefully this historical street which is the heart and soul of the music industry survives the onslaught of development.”

DON’T MISS

Kent made the Nature list for its rewilding success stories and its plan to reintroduce bison in the region.

The Kent Wildlife Trust and Wildwood Trust project will see four European bison reintroduced in Blean Woods in spring 2022.

Jonah Purvis said: “Blean Woods are undoubtedly a beautiful place. You can walk for miles around well-trodden paths and absorb the sunlight which dapples through the trees.”

And Kayla Perrie wrote: “Absolutely stunning woods.”

On the Family list, there were two UK winners.

Nottinghamshire and its Robin Hood’s history got a mention.

Nottingham Castle and Sherwood Forest are two great family attractions, and so is Newstead Abbey, the ancestral home of Lord Byron.

Hadrian’s Wall also made the Family list.

There are plenty of things to do and see along the Wall, and the inspiration behind Game of Thrones’ Wall is getting some Government and charity funding to turn it into a major tourist attraction.
