IT’S been a LONG time since I managed to grab some quality time with my daughter Audrey so a little pampering trip for some ‘mummy-daughter’ time was definitely on the cards.
We needed time out from our busy lives to rest and recharge our batteries, and when we found a Warner Wellness Retreat we both knew instantly it was for us.
Taking place at Thoresby Hall, a magnificent house set on the edge of Sherwood Forest, it was the perfect location to get away from it all.
The Retreat offers a variety of wellness workshops and seminars, including yoga, pilates and meditation and you can choose to join as many or as few of these classes as you like, tailoring your trip to suit you.
We wanted to make the most of the expert tuition on offer, so we took the opportunity to try as many classes as possible which made our itinerary fairly busy — but we still had time to relax in between.
We arrived on a Friday afternoon just in time to attend the welcome meeting at 3pm then quickly changed into our lycra to join the sunset vinyasa yoga class.

I’ve never done yoga before so I was surprised how much I managed. The hardest part was the ‘comfortable’ sitting pose. Go figure!
The good thing is, it doesn’t matter if you’re a novice or an expert, you just do what’s right for you. After that we had a bit of time to explore the hotel.
Warner has spent a vast amount restoring Thoresby Hall to its former splendour so it’s fascinating to look around.
At dinner in the magnificent Blue Room I could hardly eat for gawping at the luxurious silk wall covering and the spectacular ceiling, a rare occasion when the food was not the star attraction for me.
Before we turned in for the night we had a restorative yoga class followed by sound healing meditation. The two sessions, along with Amy’s singing and relaxation sounds, helped us to unwind.
Up early next morning we joined the sunrise yoga, loving kindness meditation and a pilates class, all before breakfast! It was wonderful to make time for ourselves for a change and we were already starting to feel the benefits.
There are so many other activities on offer you’ll never get bored. We decided to test our archery skills and I even hit a bullseye. It’s just a pity I was aiming for an apple at the time!
Next up was a treat with a gin tasting masterclass. Who would have thought of using Appletise as a mixer and little did we know that by adding a slice of orange or lemon you can completely change the taste.

We kept a gin to take along to the gin yoga class. We weren’t sure what to expect but it turned out to be some light-hearted fun.
After another leisurely dinner, we looked forward to the Energy Healing Circle where Rivkah performed Reiki on anyone taking part.
We deserved a bit of a lie in on Sunday morning but we still managed to cram loads in the rest of the day.
We did Qigong before breakfast, then tried tapping meditation before joining Carlie and Amy for the Vision Boards Wellness Workshop.
In the afternoon we were back at the Blue Room for a perfect afternoon tea, before joining a cocktail making class. Yum rum.
It was difficult to master the steps at our first ever Latin dance class later that afternoon, but instructors Stephanie and Rivkah made sure we had fun trying.

We followed dinner with some dance meditation, then finally it was time for the closing ceremony and the most relaxing gong bath.
Finishing off the Retreat with one final sunrise yoga session before breakfast on Monday morning and we were heading back up the road to Glasgow in a blissful state of Zen
