The South Florida Sun Sentinel’s longtime sports columnist and a former photographer were honored by the Associated Press Sports Editors this week.

Dave Hyde was named one of the top 10 sports columnists in the country for his work in 2022, competing in the largest circulation category. It is the 17th time Hyde has earned top-10 honors from APSE. Hyde’s winning columns were about the history of Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, the firing of Dolphins coach Brian Flores, former NFL player Jason Taylor balancing coaching and fatherhood and a fund-raising campaign to help a veteran freelance sports writer.

Photographer Michael Laughlin’s photo of Heat star Jimmy Butler making an excited face during pregame introductions was named in the top 10 nationally for sports feature pictures in 2022.

In coming weeks, APSE will reveal the first-, second- and third-place winners within each top 10 category.
