Sunday Brunch presenters apologise as Alastair Campbell swears live on air

Sunday Brunch hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer were left shocked and forced to apologise after Alastair Campbell swore live on air.

Tony Blair’s former Communications Chief was on the show to promote his new book But What Can I Do?  When he committed the faux pas just after 10am.

“One of the most important messages in the book is that the three most important letters in the word activism is ‘act’. Doing stuff,” he said, before letting slip, “Sitting there on your sofa and just saying he’s a t***…”

Simon could be heard saying “woah” as Tim chimed in to say, “We’ve got to apologise for that.”

Both presenters were visibly shocked by his slip up but Alastair seemed unfazed simply saying: “Sorry, Beg your pardon, beg your pardon,” before continuing on with his train of thought.

However, he did later take to Twitter to issue a formal apology to his one million followers.

“Apologies for use of T-word on @SundayBrunchC4 …Didn’t realise it was on @Ofcom ‘strong swearword’ list…but at least @LeighFrancis seems happy (‘normally me that gets told off for swearing …’” (sic)

One of his followers @day4_carole sympathised. “Years ago, I regularly used t**t thinking it had the same meaning as twit until someone took me aside to explain its actual meaning. I still shudder with embarrassment,” she commented.

A viewer called @steveduckett found the presenter’s reaction funny tweeting: “@timlovejoy ’s face was a picture,” followed by a laughing emoji.

He wasn’t the only one who appreciated the moment. @rhyswynne tweeted: “Wake up and see Alistair Campbell use the word ‘t***’ on Sunday Brunch. You love to see it.”

A user calling themselves @Gerundagula wrote:  “Don’t you just love it when you’re fellow #BurnleyFC programme contributor Alastair Campbell gets b*******d for saying ‘He’s a t***’ Live on #SundayBrunch #TwitterClarets.”

@Tomp_14 also saw the funny side commenting: “Haha @campbellclaret saying t*** on Sunday brunch, Didn’t have that on my Sunday bingo card #sundaybrunch.” (sic)

However a tweeter called @W17JRH pointed out the more serious side of the mistake as, like many others, they had children present.

“Just turned the Overlap off as they were swearing and kids are in the room. So I put Sunday Brunch on, just in time to hear Alistair Campbell call someone a T**t!” they commented.
