‘Sunkissed makeup’ is blowing up on TikTok

Another day, another beauty trend crowned on TikTok. This time, it’s the turn of “sunkissed makeup” which may not be reinventing the wheel – what with being a classic beauty look that we’ve all heard of before – but, with spin-off trends like golden hour makeup and latte makeup bringing the glow and the bronzy tones, “sunkissed makeup” is a timely mash-up of both… with a pop colour sprinkled in for oomph.

Interest in the trend has multiplied as we’ve hit the summer months and currently “Sunkissed Makeup” has over 378.7 million views on TikTok with creators sharing exactly how they created the look. Here’s all the inspo and tips we’ve picked up on nailing the summer look…

What is the ‘Sunkissed Makeup’ trend?

“The latest ‘Sunkissed Makeup’ trend is essentially giving your skin a glowy, sunkissed look that still looks natural,” explains Elanna Pecherle, makeup artist and founder of makeup brand Pearl Beauty. “The aim is to use highlighter to create a glow,” she says, but another key ingredient to bring the trend back up to date is to “use blush to create a sunburnt effect on the high parts of your face that would be most prone to burning,” she says. We’ve already seen celebs like Hailey Bieber, Zendaya, Kylie Jenner and Sydney Sweeney jumping on the detail. “Whilst actual sunburn should never be encouraged, this trend is a fun way to add some colour, glow and definition to your make-up look,” explains Elanna.

How can I achieve this look?

The key is blending all the elements seamlessly into each other, starting (most importantly) with skin prep.

Skin prep

One creator, Ria (@caeliya) showed how she created a stunning sunkissed makeup look, starting with Rhode Beauty’s Glazing Milk and Lip Peptide to make her skin look dewy and juicy, rather than glittery. She followed with a Garnier sun cream and only then did she start applying makeup to her fresh-looking complexion

Halo bronzer

Makeup artist, Hindash, showed how he carefully buffed a halo of cream bronzer around the perimeter of the face, as well as the high points – like the bridge of the nose and tops of the cheeks – where the sun would naturally fall to get a warm sunkissed base.

“Burnt’ blusher

Another creator, Eden Weiss, revealed that amped up blush is the secret to nailing the sunkissed makeup look. “This summer, I’m whipping out my favourite sunkissed makeup look and everyone says that I look sunburnt, or that I’m wearing too much blush when I wear this, but girl, that is the whole point,” she explained.

“Apply some blush onto your cheekbones and nose; it’s best to start off with a small amount so that you can build it up – it’s much easier to add more blush on than to remove it,” says Elanna. “You will then need to blend your blush in a ‘W’ shape, starting from your cheekbone, going down to the apple of the cheek, up across the nose; and repeat to the other cheek. You can also apply some blush on your forehead, just above your temples but below your hairline, as this is another high point on the face that gets hit by the sun the most,” she adds.

Bronzy eyeshadow

Finally creator, Amanda Khamkaew, used the Anastasia Beverley Hills Cosmos palette to give her eyes a warm sunshine wash of colour with matte brown under her eyes and a scattering of gold sparkle on her lids.
