The Fremont Union High School District is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on its five-member board of trustees. The vacancy was created by the death of trustee Roy Rocklin.

Rocklin, a Sunnyvale resident, died on Sunday, March 19, from Merkel Cell Carcinoma, a rare and virulent form of skin cancer.

After designing and developing instruments used in analytical chemistry for 25 years, Rocklin switched careers and taught chemistry and physics for 10 years at Lynbrook High School. He was elected as a board trustee in 2016.

Lynbrook is one of five high schools in the district, which serves approximately 10,000 students from Cupertino, Los Altos, San Jose, Santa Clara, Saratoga and Sunnyvale. The district’s Adult School serves an additional 1,000 students at a variety of venues.

Any registered voter residing within district boundaries is eligible to serve as a trustee, excepting school district employees. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and be citizens of California. The provisional appointee will serve until the end of Rocklin’s current term in November 2024.
