Superman and Lois star teases new Steel suit

Wolé Parks has teased John Henry Irons – aka Steel – could eventually get a suit upgrade to bring him in line with his original comic book counterpart.

Throughout the first three seasons of the hit CW series, Steel has aided Clark Kent/Superman (played by Tyler Hoechlin) with a state-of-the-art suit of armour equipped with gadgets and weaponry.

However, John Henry’s suit in the original DC Comics features a rather different design, complete with an ‘S’ emblem and a more streamlined mask.

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Parks explained: “The best way to describe it is, the writers know what the comic-accurate version of the suit looks like.”

Trying his best to avoid spoilers, he continued: “So, they’re aware and… they’re aware!

“There’s no other way I can answer it. I don’t like that being the guy who’s like, ‘Watch and find out!’”

Parks’ comments suggest the writers and producers will attempt some sort of suit upgrade in the future.

On the other hand, Steel’s suit has served him well thus far and hasn’t gone through any of the usual super-suit modifications over the course of Superman and Lois’ three seasons.

“I’m very lucky in so far as, if the helmet is down, 95 per cent of the time it’s my stunt double Stephen,” he revealed.

“Stephen is amazing, it’s not easy in that suit. It looks cool on TV, the effects make it look great.

“But it’s really hard to walk around in. I don’t look cool, it’s very cumbersome.”

John Henry may have to get his Steel suit up and running again soon as he continues his clash with criminal mastermind Bruno Mannheim (Chad L Coleman) this season.

In the latest episode, John Henry had a disastrous first meeting with his daughter Natalie’s (Tayler Buck) new boyfriend Matteo (Spence Moore II).

Unbeknownst to them, Matteo just happens to be Mannheim’s son with fellow villain Onomatopoeia (Daya Vaidya).

“Bruno is a complex man operating in a very gray area,” season three guest star Coleman told TV Line.

“He may be tough and intense, but his humanity shines through with his love of his wife, his community and his son.

“People can get behind that. The more complex the character is, the richer and more rewarding their journey is.

“We feel like a family,” he added. “It’s great casting when you see us together. It makes perfect sense.”

Fans are still waiting on confirmation for a fourth season, which could be the perfect time to upgrade Steel’s armour following a tough bout with Mannheim and his league of villains.

Superman and Lois season 3 continues Thursdays on The CW.
