Supernatural Prequel The Winchesters Fails To Find A New Home After Cancelation and Will Not Continue

0

Fans of The Winchesters have seen the final hope of the series continuing exorcised on Friday as the quest to find a new home for the cancelled Supernatural prequel series. The show was one of several not renewed for a new season at The CW, but initially it was hoped that it could be sold to another network or streamer. Now Jensen Ackles has confirmed that this will not be happening in a post thanking fans for their support of the short-lived series.

The Winchesters told the story of John and Mary, the parents of Supernatural’s Dean and Sam Winchester. While the series obviously featured younger version of the characters, Jensen Ackles did reprise his role as Dean to open and add narration to the story as well as executive producing the show. Despite not bringing in the kind of viewing figures that would have saved it, the series didn’t have bad reviews and given the fan base of Supernatural did build a dedicated following during its short run.

“To all of you who watched, followed, and supported this story, THANK YOU. And to all those who brought this story to life… I couldn’t be more proud of what we did together. But as they say… timing is everything. With a massive Network shift coupled with an industry strike… welp… that’s some unfortunate timing. Sleep well dear @WinchestersOnCW … until we meet again. Somewhere down the road.”

There has previously been talk of a revival of Supernatural, but whether that will happen with The CW seriously cutting back on their scripted content is something that only time will tell. For now though, it seems like the story of the Winchester family in all forms is at an end.

While The Winchesters will not be getting the chance to play out its five-season plan, Jensen Ackles will be returning to screens in another popular show; Prime Video’s The Boys and he recently confirmed that he will be putting in an appearance in the show’s spin-off series, Gen V. The new college-based take on the world of Supes is expected to arrive later this year, and Ackles said:

“Soldier Boy pops up for a brief moment in this new spin-off of The Boys. In fact, there’s a few cameos from the mothership that come into this spin-off. My little bit there was heavily [improvised]. [Eric Kripke] and I were just, like, we were spitballing ideas and workshopping literally in between takes and coming up with a whole variety of takes.”

In the main series of The Boys, another Supernatural alum is coming to the party in the form of Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Having been on creator Eric Kripke’s hit list for some time, Morgan will finally make his debut in the series’ upcoming fourth season and that could mean an on-screen reunion with Ackles could be on the cards.
