However, 19 runs off 25 ball while batting at number three is all he could manage. In the second ODI, he was sent to bat at six but another failure followed. The right-hander had an opportunity to play match-winning knock after an Indian collapse but just 24 runs off 25 balls came off his bat.
Twin failures in the ongoing series has brought his place in the third ODI on Tuesday, August 1, in doubt. Even if Suryakumar Yadav gets another chance, he will be under tremendous pressure.

The Mumbai batter has gone without scoring an ODI fifty for 17 consecutive innings now. The last time a specialist India batter had as many consecutive innings without scoring a fifty-plus score was Suresh Raina between November 2010 and September 2011.
With the likes of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer slated to make a comeback from injury ahead of the World Cup 2023, and Sanju Samson in the fray – Suryakumar might just have spoiled his case for selection in the big-ticket event despite some serious backing from captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid.
The world number one T20I batter is now averaging 23.8 in 25 ODI matches. He is yet to breach the 500-run mark.
