‘Swear by it’: Mrs Hinch fans share 34p cleaning tip to remove clothing stains

Mrs Hinch fans often share cleaning tips and tricks on dedicated social media pages. Posting on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, Tracey Devine wrote: “Does anyone have any good stain removal hacks for kids clothes please? I have a pizza stain on a hoodie that I can’t shift.” More than 30 group members shared tips in the comments.

Stains are typically pigments which are extremely hard to remove if they have already sunk into the fabric.

Red wine, tomato sauces and soy sauce are amongst the common staining food items.

Taking to the comments, Wilma Keating wrote: “Use washing up liquid to rub it and then put it in the washing machine. It’s good for grease as well.”

Lou Hall said: “Got to be washing up liquid, use cold water.”

The stain should begin to dissolve but it may need to be washed properly before any noticeable differences can be seen.

Bridgette Shaw also recommended any type of washing up liquid.

Other group members suggested purchasing a cleaning product from the supermarket, the Elbow Grease All Purpose Degreaser spray.

Available in supermarkets for just £1, the spray is formulated to remove grease and oil from fabrics and porous materials.

Shaving foam is a form of whipped soap, which means it can be used for a number of cleaning jobs.

When applied to a stain, it lathers up and helps to put moisture into any stain.

This makes it easier to remove by rubbing with cold water.

Cold water helps to lift stains without setting it, while hot water can cook the protein, causing it to absorb further into clothing fibres.

If hot water is used, stains can be almost impossible to remove.
