The founder of a taco-loving website has weighed in on a flap created by Taco Bell over the rights to the phrase “Taco Tuesday.”
“Taco Bell is doing a really cool thing,” said Pamela Waitt, who is also the founder of the OC Restaurant Association.
The Irvine-based fast food giant announced on May 16 — a Tuesday — that it had filed petitions to cancel a registered trademark held by Wyoming-based Taco John’s for 34 years.
This week, it got the endorsement of Lakers basketball great LeBron James.
Waitt said in a statement the concept of Taco Tuesday is too big to belong to one business.
“This is not about asking Taco John’s to stop celebrating Taco Tuesday, we’re asking them to recognize that since their trademark was granted, the term has grown well beyond them. Millions of people celebrate Taco Tuesday across the country in restaurants and at home and have the right to do so.”
