Tahoe really does not want you to drive up this weekend

With yet another winter storm looming this weekend in California, emergency departments are going full-blast to get one message out: Don’t drive to Tahoe! The area has already gotten more than 12 feet of snow over the last week alone – setting it up for “one of the biggest winters ever recorded,” according to the Tahoe Fund – and traveling there right now is a surefire recipe for misery and real danger.

The latest forecast calls for “dangerous to impossible” travel in the mountains and foothills from Saturday through Monday, March 4-6. Here are some of the more interesting ways emergency social media has been alerting the public to the dicey conditions:

"Check out how much snow we've received at our Truckee District Office! Our visitors centers continue to be closed due to snow, power outages and road closures. Locations may continue to be impacted as we expect a new weather system to move through in the next couple days."
