A weather alert for the Lake Tahoe area forecasts a cold snap with high winds and snow this weekend.
The advisory from the National Weather Service’s Reno office says weekend high temperatures will be 15 to 25 degrees lower than in the previous days, and overnight freezing is expected along the east edge of the Sierra Nevada from Truckee to Mammoth Lakes.

As the front moves in on Friday night, winds will increase. Gusts of 30 to 45 mph are likely in valleys, the weather service said, and on ridgetops they could reach 100 mph.
On Saturday, 1 to 4 inches of snow is possible at Sierra passes, with lesser amounts down to 5,000 feet elevation.
High temperatures Saturday and Sunday are expected to be around 45 in Truckee and South Lake Tahoe.
