Taylor Swift and Matty Healy have reportedly split

Swifties’ brief international nightmare is over. After a very confusing month, Taylor Swift and Matty Healy have reportedly broken up.

TMZ initially reported the relationship’s downfall on June 5 with few details about what went on behind closed doors. All they know is that, according to “a friend close to the situation,” Swift is “single” again. A source later confirmed the split to Entertainment Tonight. “Taylor and Matty broke up. They are both extremely busy and realized they’re not really compatible with each other,” the source said, adding, “Taylor’s friends want what’s best for her and aren’t shocked that their relationship fizzled out since she recently got out of a long-term relationship.”

The alleged exes never actually confirmed their relationship but have been spending a lot of time together since rumors surfaced in early May.

The controversial romance was first reported by The Sun less than a month after news broke that Swift and Joe Alwyn had ended their six-year relationship. Shortly after sources claimed the “Anti-Hero” singer and The 1975 frontman were “madly in love,” Healy seemed to confirm the rumors by flying all the way from the Philippines to watch Swift perform in Nashville on May 5. From that point on, they’ve been photographed holding hands and making multiple stops at Electric Lady Studios.

Despite their short tryst, the musicians actually have a long, complicated history. Healy and Swift first met after she attended one of his band’s shows in LA in 2014. “We exchanged numbers,” he told the Australian radio show Shazam Top 20 at the time. “I mean, bloody hell, what am I going to do? Go out with Taylor Swift? She’s a sensation; I wouldn’t say no!” From there, both parties were seen wearing each other’s merch.

However, after an alleged fling, Healy gave a controversial interview in which he claimed it would be “emasculating” to be known as Taylor Swift’s boyfriend. Of course, this was nothing compared to his laundry list of problematic statements and actions, which is why many Swift fans have denounced the rumored relationship and criticised their fave for seemingly condoning his behavior.

TMZ reports that Taylor Swift’s last public outing with Matty Healy took place on May 25. A few days prior, Swift told an Eras Tour crowd of 60,000 fans that she’s “never been this happy in my life—in all aspects of my life—ever before.” Hopefully, that’s still true without Healy. I bet it is.
