On display through September 4 are the cheerleader and ballerina ensembles from the 2014 music video for “Shake It Off”; the red wedding dress and bellhop uniform from the 2021 “I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault),” featuring Miles Teller and directed by Blake Lively; and the sparkling ensemble from the 2022 “Bejeweled” (2022), which Swift directed.
Also on display, the museum said, are “concert attire by couture fashion houses” and “props, jewelry, ephemera and projections of music videos.”
The museum said “Swift’s emotional songwriting is the catalyst for the captivating worlds she brings to life on stage and screen through exquisitely crafted costumes, inventive scene design and imaginative iconography.”
Added Alexandra Schwartz, the museum’s curator of modern and contemporary art, craft and design, “At MAD, fashion and the decorative have long been valued as a critical visual language and no one speaks that language quite like Taylor Swift. Whether dressed down in a flannel shirt and untamed hair or literally dazzling her audiences in head-to-toe Swarovski crystals, Taylor gives greater meaning to the palettes, textures and depths of feeling expressed in her songwriting.”
The museum is holding a number of special public events in conjunction with the exhibition. Upcoming, on July 15, will be “Adopt a Fur-ever Friend!” at which the mobile truck of the Animal Care Centers of NYC will present local dogs, cats and kittens “looking for a forever home.”
The museum’s shop also is offering a curated collection of Swift merchandise, from apparel to accessories.
