The Big 12 gauntlet continues on Wednesday with TCU traveling to Austin to face on Texas.
The Longhorns have been in disarray all season, but got some clarity last week when the program opted to fire head coach Chris Beard. They responded by going on the road and shutting down Oklahoma State to the tune of a 56-46 victory.
Now, the Longhorns face Big 12 contender TCU as they try to now reach their preseason expectations with some consistency now at the coaching position with Rodney Terry taking over.
Here are the odds for this conference matchup:
TCU vs. Texas odds, spread and total
TCU vs. Texas prediction and pick
This total is incredibly over inflated due to two recent outcomes. The first was Texas allowing 116 points to Kansas State in regulation while TCU rallied to beat Baylor in a game that finished with a final score of 88-87.
These are two teams that like to play fast on offense due to their turnover driven tendencies, but both teams are excellent at defending transition offense, especially Texas who has allowed the 22nd fewest transition shot attempts this season.
If this game is played in the halfcourt, expect Texas’ no middle defense to shut down the TCU interior attack, which is essentially their whole offense. The team is shooting below 30% from three this season and more than 58% of their points come from two-point tries.
On the other side, Texas also wants to get inside and score from the paint, but TCU is fantastic at limiting shots at the rim, a top 50 two-point defense this season.
Both teams are comfortable playing in the 60’s and I think recent results are inflating this total, I’ll play under this total.
