India’s reluctance to travel to Pakistan citing security concerns forced the 50-over tournament to be staged in Hybrid format rather than the originally planned single host format. As a result, Team India will play all their matches of Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka.
After the opener against Pakistan, the Men in Blue will face the other team from their Group A, Nepal at the same venue in Kandy on September 4. If Rohit Sharma’s side qualify for the next round – Super 4, they will play their remaining matches at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Even if India finish as toppers in Group A, they will still remain as A2, while Pakistan will take A1 spot if they qualify. But if Nepal manages to qualify from the group, they will take the spot of either India or Pakistan depending on their position in the table.

In Super 4, India will face their arch-rivals Pakistan again on September 10 in Colombo, where they will face the two teams qualify from Group B, featuring Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. All this depends on their progression from the first round.
Even in Group B, Sri Lanka will be B1 and Bangladesh will be B2 if they both progress to the Super 4 regardless of their final positions after first round group stage. If Afghanistan does better than them, they will take the spot of the worst performing team in the group.
