A cosmetic practitioner opening her second skin laser clinic in Perth’s western suburbs has described the burgeoning field as a complex marriage between art and science.
Doctor Gina Messiha is one half of the duo behind Ocean Cosmetics, a homegrown cosmetic clinic first opened 13 years ago in Wembley Downs.
In conjunction with general practitioner Dr Jessica Wang, Dr Messiha has grown a boutique clinic at the “forefront of technology and techniques,” which now sits in the heart of one of Perth’s ritziest coastal suburbs.
“I see a close association between inner and outer health and beauty,” Dr Messiha said.
Western suburbs residents opting for procedures will be treated to a new studio, designed by architect Nickolas Gurtler and described as combining, “soft blues and natural fibre” to create a “serene, elegant space.”
One of the State’s leaders in the cosmetic space, the practice boasts one of the largest ranges of treatment technologies available, including six WA-exclusive treatment options.
The Cottesloe centre joins the back of a thriving industry, with the Australian facial injectable market valued about $5.2 billion in 2022, according to data from Grand View Research, and is expected to grow in coming years.

Ocean Cosmetics provides face and body treatments, with a specific focus on skin lasering. On offer is a raft of aesthetic procedures including cellulite reduction, muscle toning, tattoo removals and skin tightening treatments.
“(Cosmetic medicine) shouldn’t be trusted to anyone other than a qualified cosmetic physician,” Dr Messiha said.
Some of her signature treatments include combatting fine lines, wrinkles, sun-damaged skin and a loss of collagen. Alongside her career as a practitioner, the doctor is an international keynote speaker and dermatological treatment trainer.
“When we look good on the outside then we feel good on the inside which promotes confidence and self-esteem,” she said.
“I believe the best results in cosmetic and anti-ageing medicine are achieved by implementing a combination of various treatments.”

Dr Wang is a GP who subsequently went into cosmetic medicine.
She said her specialities lie in non-surgical cosmetic medicine, specifically laser therapies which included broadband light, Q-switch lasers and fractional lasers.
“I’m committed to using my training, experience and knowledge base to assist patients with personal skin issues,” she said.
