They should have been attending a swanky finale party and cast panel event.
Instead Ted Lasso’s stars — including Hannah Waddingham, Nick Mohammed and the show’s co-creators Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt — hit the picket line, to show solidarity for the Hollywood Writers Strike.
The stars took to the streets of LA, picketing out the front of the WB studio lot.
“On our final day as Richmond Greyhounds….there’s nowhere else we could be. Thank you so much to our magnificent writers’ room. We’d be NOTHING without you. #WritersStrike #tedlasso #believe,” Waddingham, who portrays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton on the show, wrote to her 248,000 Twitter fans.
It’s a fitting show of unity from the stars, who were supposed to be appearing at the Paley Center for Media for a cast panel chat with Sudeikis and Hunt — the centre informed ticket holders last Thursday that the event would no longer go ahead.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Sudeikis made the decision to cancel after the Writer’s Guild of America asked its members not to participate in press events organised by studios who are not members of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
Ted Lasso is produced by Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television for Apple, who are members of the AMPTP, the group that represents streamers against the WGA’s demands.
The Ted Lasso finale went to air at Midday Perth time, and was met with widespread acclaim for fans, who praised it’s pitch-perfect send-off.
