This article contains mild spoilers for The Flash
While the new film The Flash is overflowing with special cameos, it seems that Teddy Sears is not among them. In the film, there’s a fleeting moment where an alternate Flash can be seen, and he happens to look a lot like Sears’ character from the TV series version of The Flash, complete with the winged helmet. That led to some reports out of early screenings that Sears had a cameo, perhaps as a fun way of acknowledging the TV show.
However, that’s evidently not Sears at all, but a doppelganger who resembles him. TVLine has confirmed that the character in the film is not Sears, but rather a “generic Golden Age Flash representation” played by an unknown actor. It is not archival footage from the TV series, and Sears has also verified that he didn’t shoot any new material from the movie.
“People kept telling me that I was in the new Flash movie,” Sears explains, confused by the situation. “I mean, I’m sleep-deprived with a newborn at home, so my memory is a little foggy. But I’m pretty sure I would have remembered shooting a major DC Studios film.”
He continued, “Sadly, I’m not in this. Thanks for confirming!”
While The Flash show has ended and Sears isn’t in the new movie, he’s not finished with DC just yet. The actor voices Warlord in the animated film Justice League: Warworld, arriving on July 25. He also recently shot a pilot for NBC with Zachary Quinto, so fingers crossed that gets picked up and Sears will be back on the small screen soon enough. Earlier this year, he reprised his role in the TV series The Flash for the final season, which gave him one final chance to revisit that character.
“I don’t know if you will [see Zoom return]. I’ve been trying to ask. I’m still in contact with a lot of cast,” Sears had told ComicBook.com before returning in the TV show before it came to be. “I talk to Grant Gustin all the time, Danielle [Panabaker]… Tom Cavanagh is no longer there, but he and I stay in touch… and Jesse Martin… so it would be my highest hope that I get to do one more in the final season.”
The Flash Includes Many Other Special Cameos
We won’t get into specifics here, but there are many other major surprises for DC fans in The Flash. The series stars Ezra Miller as multiple versions of Barry Allen while also bringing back Michael Keaton as his incarnation of Batman from the classic Tim Burton films. Sasha Calle is introduced as Supergirl in the movie and some fans are saying that she steals the show, deserving of her own solo project in that role.
Andy Muschietti directs the film using a screenplay by Christina Hodson. The story is by John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein, and Joby Harold. The film also stars Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdu, Kiersey Clemons, Michael Shannon, and Antje Traue.
The Flash is now playing in movie theaters.
