Konami has announced that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection has crested 1 million copies sold. That’s a lot of pizza.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is a compilation of 13 games made throughout Konami’s time with the license. While this mostly just means it’s the Arcade titles and well-known ports, it also includes some less-beloved titles, such as the various iterations of The Tournament Fighters. The ports were handled by Digital Eclipse, who did a great job bringing the games over and including some awesome extras.

Personally, I feel The Cowabunga Collection is incredibly important. Licensed games are among the most difficult to get modern ports of, simply because the publisher often has to reacquire rights, and the costs there can mean that it’s simply not a profitable venture. I felt that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games were among the most unfortunate victims of this limitation, as they are some of the best licensed games developed. Having them left on platforms that are no longer supported would have been an unfortunate fate.

Thankfully, Konami has been mining its dragon’s horde of old titles recently with compilations like Castlevania Anniversary Collection. While I feel like the publisher is better known for pissing all over its history, I love being proven wrong, and their recent collections, including the Cowabunga Collection, have been heartening.

Now that I’ve offered some praise, I must now make demands for compilations of games such as Ganbare Goemon, Parodius, and a scattershot of unlocalized Famicom titles.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and Switch.
