Chilling footage captures the moment toxic gas engulfs an entire port killing ten and leaving hundreds injured.

A 25 tonne chlorine tank exploded with yellow-coloured gas at a dock in Jordan’s Aqaba port injuring at least 251 workers – as dock worker tried desperately to flee the toxic scene.

The chlorine gas was being exported to Djibouti but a leak was caused during transportation, according to officials.

Residents and workers living nearby have been asked by authorities to shut their windows and stay inside as the toxic gas could be seen rising into the air – with locals running away from the site for their safety.

The horrific footage shows the storage tank falling from a winch before crashing into the deck of a ship.

Specialised teams, including evacuation planes, are being deployed by the Civil Defence Service as they look to try and contain the leak – as over 251 people were injured and a further ten killed – according to Public Security Directorate.

According to local reports, Prime Minister Bisher al-Khasawneh arrived into Aqaba, which is on the northern tip of the Red Sea next to the Israeli city of Eilat, and visited some of the injured patients in hospital where they are currently being treated.

The incident, which is being investigated by officials as emergency services still work on containing the incident, has had no impact on the city according to a statement issued by local authorities.

However, they are closely monitoring events and updating residents, accordingly.
