Tesco announces major change affecting all shoppers from today

Tesco shoppers will not be able to use their Clubcard app from April 17. Instead, they will have to download the new supermarket’s mobile app, Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app. Luckily, customers won’t lose any points with the new app and they will be able to use them as usual.

The new Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app is very similar to the old one and shoppers have to simply download it and log in to keep collecting points.

Those who use a physical Clubcard instead of the mobile app won’t be affected by the change and they can continue using their card as usual.

The new app has many new features and allows shoppers to pay, view their points balance, spend vouchers and order groceries as well as check the stock in all stores.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “Bringing the functionality of Tesco Pay+ into the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app is a demonstration of our focus on providing products that closely align to the needs of Tesco shoppers.”

The supermarket also announced that from June 14, the Tesco’s Clubcard vouchers that members can use with rewards partners such as Zizzi, Hotels.com, Disney+ and Pizza Express, will be reduced in value.

At the moment, Tesco Clubcard members can triple the value of vouchers when they exchange them at any reward partners, but this will no longer be possible.

Instead, customers will only be able to double the value when exchanging the vouchers. To make the most of the scheme before the change takes place, shoppers can order partner codes until June 13.

A spokesperson from Tesco explained: “We’re making this change to the scheme to make sure we can continue to provide a wide range of rewards that meet the needs of all our Tesco Clubcard members, while keeping prices low for everyone.

Tesco suggested: “If you already have a Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner code, you can still use it at up to 3x the value until its expiry date. The expiry date can be found in your order email or in the My rewards section in the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app.

“Doubling the value of Tesco Clubcard vouchers with our Tesco Clubcard Reward Partners is a convenient way to make your money go further on things like family fun, dining out, at-home entertainment, cinema trips and holidays.”

The supermarket also announced that drivers are no longer able to collect one Clubcard point for every £2 spent on fuel and instead, they will now get one point for every two litres.

Earlier this month, the supermarket announced it was locking the price of 1,000 everyday products until July 5, as well as a further price reduction on some items.

Tesco also dropped milk prices for the first time since May 2020 across all its UK stores and online.

Tesco UK Chief Executive, Jason Tarry, commented: “We know that customers are still having to budget carefully, so we’re pleased to be able to reduce prices where we can, and also give them a little extra help by locking the prices of more than a thousand everyday products.

“Milk is a key everyday staple for so many families. We’ve seen some cost price deflation for milk across the market in recent times, and we want to take this opportunity to pass that reduction on to customers.”
