Tesco recalled its Tesco British Cooking Salt due to health fears as it “may contain small pieces of plastic”.

The Food Standards Agency also issued an urgent warning and explained that “the possible presence of plastic makes this product unsafe to eat”.

Tesco announced: “We have been made aware that a specific batch of Tesco Cooking Salt 1.5kg may have been contaminated with small pieces of plastic.

“This could potentially pose a risk if ingested” due to “foreign body contamination,” the supermarket added.

Tesco warned customers who have the product at home that the cooking salt is “unsafe to eat” and urged them to return it to the store.
