Tesla recalls almost 1.1 million vehicles – drivers warned of faults

Reuters reported that the Elon Musk-led automaker is recalling more than one million cars. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has raised this as an issue, with the recall being announced today.

It has been reported that the window automatic reversal system may not react correctly after detecting an obstruction.

The recall notice is believed to be for the United States only.

The electric vehicle manufacturer told the NHTSA it would perform an over-the-air software update of the automatic window reversal system.

The recall covers some 2017-2022 Model 3, 2020-2021 Model Y, and 2021-2022 Model S and Model X vehicles.

Tesla said it was not aware of any warranty claims, field reports, crashes, injuries, or deaths related to the recall.

The recall notice said as a consequence of the issue, a closing window may exert excessive force by pinching a driver or passenger before retracting, increasing the risk of injury.

The total number of units affected is 1,096,762, according to the NHTSA filing.

NHTSA said a closing window without the proper automatic reversing system may exert excessive force by pinching a driver or passenger before retracting, increasing the risk of injury.

Tesla had record sales in the UK in 2021 with the Model 3 being the best-selling EV on the market with 34,783.

It outsold the next three best-selling EVs combined – the Kia e-Niro, Volkswagen ID.3 and Nissan Leaf.

Thanks to the record sales, it was the second best-selling vehicle overall, with the Vauxhall Corsa selling 6,000 more vehicles.

Tesla sales in the UK are expected to remain strong in the coming months and years, with the appetite for electric vehicles growing massively.

So far, Elon Musk has yet to respond to the recall notice, with his most recent Twitter post, from Monday, saying that a new beta test of Tesla’s Full Self Driving feature “looks good”.

He added that the autonomous driving technology has been extended to 160,000 owners in the United States and Canada.
