Tesla’s in-car video games can be played by driver while operating the vehicle

According to a report by The New York Times , Tesla added the games to its in-dash offerings during an over-the-air update this summer.

The three video games – classic solo card time-killer Solitaire, a plane-fighting game called Sky Force Reloaded, and a strategy bit called The Battle of Polytopia: Moonrise – are meant to be enjoyed solely by the front-seat passenger while the vehicle is in motion, with a warning appearing on screen when you open Solitaire that reads “Solitaire is a game for everyone, but playing while the car is in motion is only for passengers.”

That may be the message Tesla is sending with written words, but the game is 100-per-cent playable by the driver, even as the vehicle is in use. This warning also appears to suggest the brand is aware of the driver’s ability to play the games while operating the vehicle.

We apologize, but this video has failed to load.

Hypothetically, Tesla would be able to limit game use by the driver via a number of technological means, including through the employment of eye-tracking software such as that used by Cadillac’s Super Cruise system. But they haven’t, for whatever reason, choosing to push the legal envelope by begging forgiveness instead of asking permission.

Unsurprisingly, neither Tesla or its founder Elon Musk have responded to the NYT’s request for comment.
