Coco and Breezy of the eponymous eyewear brand [Coco and Breezy] have always been adventurous, leaving Minnesota as teen girls for the big city of New York. Subsequently, they took to eyewear design and intensely learned the ins and outs of the eyewear industry. Now they are taking less risk but continuing the adventure as eath-concious twins, designing eyewear through a holistic lens.
This aesthetic and the lifestyle the twin creators embody have been what founded the Teva brand. Teva has stayed true to its adventurous roots and risk-taking, forging the first ever sport sandal designed to hold your ankle and remain on your feet as you traverse water and land. This summer, Teva collaborated with Coco and Breezy on a Hurricane XLT 2 sandal, made for all genders.
In January 2022, Coco and Breezy Dotson commemorate the past decade of their career with an excursion to Costa Rica, in which they took to an off-the-grid adventure. There, the twin visionaries would explore the natural world outside our doors, uninterrupted from modernity, and cater to their mental health as they reset themselves for the new year.
“We have been here for about 4 days now and it feels like it’s been a lifetime. We still have about 20 more days here ????????????. It’s taught us what life is really about. We are learning to have a better work/life balance.” Coco and Breezy said this in an Instagram caption of a carousel post of the two girls eating fruit, practicing yoga, and exploring the local landscape – a combination of video and images.
“We have learned a lot about ourselves. We both started journals, where we are writing down life lessons that we learn while we’re here,” the twin girls state in their Instagram post. While in Costa Rica, Coco and Breezy tapped into their consciousness while wearing their [self-purchased] pair of Teva sandals. The trip was a mental health boost and fashion experience draped in natural elements. Their experience connected them through modest living, bike riding, and thoughtful moments of a natural world, as opposed to their jet-setting lifestyle as designers and DJs.
“I think that Breezy and I have a connection with Teva because we were always into nature, exploring, and going outdoors. When Teva reached out to us for the collaboration, it inspired us even more – to explore more,” Coco explains.
This past July, Teva and the Coco and Breezy brand invited an intimate group of conscious-fashion influencers to retreat from their everyday hustles in New York City. The two-day retreat was a first-hand experience of the eyewear twin’s cabin complex, The Lorca, in Shandaken, NY.
Coco recalls their trip earlier this year, “at the beginning of this year, we went to Costa Rica – it was our first time – and that was when we really got to ‘wear’ Teva sandals, wearing the sandals for three weeks while living outside. We weren’t wearing our collaboration [yet!],” eluding from the idea.
At The Lorca, guests came to do more than just roast marshmallows. Hosted by Teva team members and Coco and Breezy themselves, the goal was to rejuvenate a group of eco-fashion enthusiasts with a mental break from careers that can drain and jade us. Invited to enjoy two sunny days up in the Catskill Mountains of New York state were Kim Duong, the senior shopping editor at Cosmopolitan, eco-social influencer Valentina Padilla, and journalists Sophia Li and Noor Tagouri, to name a few.
Each day everyone gathered with family-style meals. Among them were moments of sincere conversation about family, fashion, and food, for the most part. The group spent the daytime visiting a waterhole and hiking to a waterfall. Adventurous moments of bonding in Teva x Coco and Breezy sandals provided by the brand offered the fashionable group seamless exploration in the adorned opened-toe footwear designed by Coco and Breezy. They implemented their beloved metallic accents to the sandals that are signature to the Coco and Breezy eyewear line, and have sunglasses specially made for the Teva collaboration.
Coco expresses that “the collaboration was special because we wanted to create something authentic in our two ways. One is exploring the importance of that with mental health. Having more POC – specifically, Black people – go outside and [showing] the benefits of it. And two; always looking stylish. I like to look cute when I go on a hike – like stepping out of a fashion show because that’s just who I am. I think our [Teva] collaboration sandals give you that. You can explore. If you look at our brand Identity with our eyewear, we always have cool metal accents – we love to be adorned.”
Coco speaks highly of the footwear brand and relishes the organic collaboration, “we always loved the brand, and it drew us to be more inspired and explore more outside – walking through waterfalls and water with our Teva [sandals]. And when going hiking in the jungle.
She concludes by stating, “usually, my old self would have cute shoes on that are fashionable – and Tevas are fashionable and [for] outdoors. I’d have shoes that weren’t for hiking or being outside, and would stop my exploration, and once we started wearing Tevas more, it expanded our exploration.”
