The 2025 Ram 1500 REV’s Enormous Battery Could Get Even Bigger

This week saw Ram Trucks reveal its answer to the Tesla Cybertruck and Ford F-150 Lightning, in the form of the 2025 Ram 1500 REV electric pickup truck.

Revealed at the New York International Motor Show, the 1500 REV is the first all-electric model from Ram Trucks. As standard it will be offered with a 168 kWh battery pack, which is already larger than the 98 kWh and 131 kWh battery options available for the Ford F-150 Lightning.

Although not confirmed, the Tesla Cybertruck is expected to offer a battery capacity of up to 200 kWh.

But Ram is going bigger. Much, much bigger. The company said this week its 1500 REV will also be available with a simply enormous 229 kWh battery pack, which is far larger than anything else currently available on a private vehicle. Parent company Stellantis claims the massive pack will be good for a range of over 500 miles, while the standard 168 kWh battery has a targeted range of up to 350 miles.

Other statistics for the electric truck include a towing capacity of up to 14,000 lbs and a maximum payload of 2,700 lbs. Stellantis says the Ram 1500 REV can add up to 110 miles of range is approximately 10 minutes, thanks to its 800-volt system architecture and charging speeds of up to 350 kWh.

This would make the 1500 REV the fastest-charging vehicle around, a title currently held by the Porsche Taycan which also has an 800-volt DC system but is limited to a charging speed of 270 kW. The Ford F-150 Lightning makes do with a 400-volt system and a maximum charging speed of 150 kW.

Ram says its new truck has a targeted 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds, a total power output of 654 horsepower and 620 lbs-ft of torque, and the ability to wade through 24 inches of water.

But, in the words of a TV shopping channel, that’s not all. Speaking to Road & Track after the reveal on 5 April, Ram Trucks chief engineer Doug Killian said an XR version of the truck will have an even bigger battery. Although he didn’t say exactly how much larger than 229 kWh its capacity would be, Killian said the truck would have “Earth-shattering” range capabilities.

For more context on the 1500 REV’s extraordinary claims, the 131 kWh Ford F-150 Lightning has a stated range of up to 320 miles, while the 212.7 kWh battery of the Hummer EV is good for a claimed 329 miles.
