We invite you to join us tonight – July 8 – as Jim Kitchen and friends of Aaron Koelman hold an Online Charity Auction to support Aaron, who is battling Pancreatic Cancer. The auction will be at 9:00 p.m. EST on the Official Goodman Games Twitch Channel, and will include rare publications, unique items, and one-of-a-kind collectibles donated by the DCC community.
Aaron’s friend and auction organizer Jim Kitchen tells us more:
“One of the first things that you notice about the Dungeon Crawl Classics Community is that it is exactly that: a community. What binds us together is a love for DCC and fellowship for other players. It’s one of the hallmarks of the game and one of the reasons the community has been so robust. One of the earliest members of our DCC family, and one of the most stalwart, is Aaron Koelman. Aaron was there before DCC truly came together and had long been a patron of DCC artist Doug Kovacs. If you’ve been to Gen Con or Gary Con you may have sat next to this towering Viking from Minnesota and rolled some dice with him.
Recently Aaron disclosed that he has been fighting Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer for most of the last year. Aaron has several rounds of chemotherapy behind him and while continuing to move forward recognizes that, as is often the case with this form of cancer, the odds are a bit long. With a six-year-old son, this last part has been weighing on him greatly.
I became aware of Aaron’s illness when he told me at Gary Con this year. At the same time, as fathers, we talked about our sons and doing our part to take care of them going forward. I suggested to Aaron that widening his circle of support may give us the chance to help him and after some thought he agreed.
We will be holding a charity auction to benefit Aaron’s ongoing fight with Pancreatic Cancer on July 8th on the Goodman Games Twitch Channel. Members of the DCC community are donating rare, one-of-a-kind items including adventures, artwork, and other items which will all be auctioned off. Money raised will be sent to Aaron under the auspices of establishing an education account for his son. In organizing this event the response from those who know Aaron has been tremendous, an indication of what high esteem we hold him in.
I should be clear that this event is being organized by friends of Aaron, and it is not an official event sponsored by Goodman Games. Joseph has been kind enough to donate the time for the event on the Goodman Games Twitch channel and we can’t thank him enough.
Aaron is the embodiment of everything our community has created over the last decade and he needs our help. I hope that you will consider donating and participating in this effort.”
