The Acolyte Will Prove the Jedi Were Wrong

The Jedi are the good guys of the Star Wars universe, but even the heroes get it wrong sometimes, and that will be the focus of one of the franchise’s upcoming series. The Acolyte will explore a side of history unknown to fans, proving that the Jedi themselves were to blame for the rise of the dark side.

The Star Wars universe continues to expand, not only with new movies, but mainly with projects for the small screen in the hands of Disney+. While fans wait for the release of Ahsoka, many other shows are getting ready to debut soon on the streaming platform, and one of them will be The Acolyte.

The series will be set during the High Republic, when the Jedi were at their peak, the events leading up to Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. In fact, it takes place 100 years before the birth of Anakin Skywalker, showing the events that will later trigger the fall of the High Republic, something that has not been seen until now.

In a recent conversation with Empire Magazine, series creator Leslye Headland anticipates the show will show a different side of the story, proving the Jedi were wrong:

“When you’re doing something completely original, like we are, you want to question the status quo of the era that you live in. What I think is so interesting right now is that everybody thinks they’re right! The Jedi really think they’re right — and George [Lucas] tells us that they’re wrong in Phantom. They missed a huge aspect of the dark side rising. That just felt like fertile ground to look into what’s going on for all of us right now.”

It is known that the arrogance of the Jedi, believing that it was impossible for the Sith to infiltrate and weaken them, was one of the causes of that happening, which led to the Empire’s rising.

Star Wars: The Acolyte stars Amandla Stenberg, Jodie Turner-Smith, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, Lee Jung-jae, Carrie-Anne Moss and Manny Jacinto, who also spoke with Empire about his role in the series.

“He’s just a regular guy, trying to have a good time, who gets swept up into the High Republic world and the Jedi, whether he likes it or not.”

The story will have a thriller and mystery tone, following a former Padawan who will have to get together again with her Jedi master in order to investigate a series of heinous crimes. What they don’t know is that they will end up facing forces much darker than they imagined.

This dark force will surely be the Sith, who are living in the shadows waiting for the perfect time to strike and start to shake the High Republic, and especially the Jedi Order.

The Acolyte will premiere in Disney+ in 2024, but Star Wars will enjoy two series this year, Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew.
