The amazing jet-shaped house designed by a 12-year-old that looks like it’s ‘flown out of a cartoon’

This tiny house is ready for take-off.

Pictures reveal a zany new aeroplane-shaped cabin – named the ‘Jet House’ – nestled in woodland in Zala County, southern Hungary.

Said by the architects to blend ‘function with fantasy’, the whimsical dwelling is fitted out with a small kitchenette and a bathroom, as well as a bed that’s tucked in the nose of the plane. Two genuine aeroplane seats, authentic overhead luggage lockers and a table with inbuilt cup-holders furnish the lounge area, and on the exterior, the wings of the plane serve as two open-air terraces for relaxing on.

The architects behind it say: ‘It seems as if it had flown out of a cartoon and landed on the meadow with its friendly arcs and curves and round windows.’

Amazingly, the chief designer behind the project is just 12 years old. Young Lujzi Pados has always loved aeroplanes and so, along with her father, she drew up the plans for the tiny house, which they agreed could be doubly used as a playhouse and let out as a holiday rental.

Armed with sketches, the family then approached the Hungarian architecture firm Hello Wood to turn the design into a reality.

The designers say: ‘Lujzi dreamed of a playhouse she could retreat to, invite her friends over to, and sleep in, and that could later be converted into lodging. She arrived at the first meetings with elaborate ideas and plans on paper.’

They add that the concept was to create a ‘fully-fledged, functional tiny house that is more reminiscent of a beautiful toy than a building’.

The end result is described as a ‘childhood fantasy come true’. To enter the jet-shaped cabin, you ascend a flight of ‘airport stairs’ at the tail of the plane. Inside, there’s a ‘retro aeroplane mood’ with rounded furnishings and wooden accents.

Aviation-themed ornaments from Lujzi and her father’s collections are dotted throughout – there’s a Pan Am model plane, an array of boarding passes and inflight brochures and several plane-shaped ornaments.

The airline seats and overhead cabins were sourced from Sky Art, an online purveyor of authentic aircraft furnishings.

Spanning 312 sq ft (29 sq m), the cabin sleeps two and meals can be prepared on an electric hot plate. Air-conditioning has been fitted inside, and the exterior has been coated in a waterproof material to keep any dampness out.

With a base structure made from plywood, more than a thousand different structural pieces were implemented in the build.

Commenting on the design, Tamas Fulop, the Jet House’s project architect says: ‘We were happy to accept the unusual assignment.

‘As an architect, it is an inspiring task to design a structure that has to be cute. It was also a challenge to incorporate traditional architectural elements into the sculptural shape, such as waterproofing and thermal insulation.’

It’s not yet confirmed when the Jet House will launch as a holiday rental, but Hello Wood notes: ‘With her cosy Jet, Lujzi is on cloud nine, and she would be delighted if others could also experience what it is like to stay in an aeroplane house.’
