Canada’s favourite summertime adventure will feature 10 teams from across Canada competing to win two Chevrolet Silverado ZR2’s, a once-in-a-lifetime trip for two around the world, a $250,000 cash prize, and the coveted title of Amazing Race Canada champs.

As Season 8 of the Race kicks off July 5, teams competing this season include an Olympian, a JUNO Award-winning singer, the Season 9 winner of Big Brother Canada, teachers, personal trainers, a firefighter, a comedian, entrepreneurs, a sales representative, a marketing expert, a motivational speaker and Broadway performers.

Jully Black, who is billed as “Canada’s Queen of R&B,” will link up with her pal Kathy Hunter on the reality series.

Other teams are small-town brothers Brendan McDougall and Connor McDougall; long-time best friends and Broadway performers Catherine Wreford Ledlow and Craig Ramsay; Olympian Jesse Cockney and his actress sister Marika Cockney; and the Season 9 winner of Big Brother Canada, Tychon Carter-Newman and his dad.

The other competitors include a B.C. couple who want to be positive role models for Indigenous youth; an athletic and energetic engaged couple from Toronto; an uncle and nephew from Halifax; Edmonton sisters who are racing for the Filipino and immigrant community; and best friends on a mission to be the second all-female team to win the Race.

Canadian Olympic gold medallist Jon Montgomery will return as host.

Ahead of the premiere, eTalk’s Chloe Wild will preview the new season on Etalk Presents: The Amazing Race Canada airing July 1.

Producers haven’t revealed where Racers on Canada’s most-watched summer series will travel to this season, but in 2019, the Race stuck close to home.

“It was one of those things where we’ve explored parts of the globe and helped tell Canadian stories in other parts of the world, but in Season 7 there’s nothing wrong with bringing the show back home and celebrating our home and native land,” producer and showrunner Mark Lysakowski told the Sun during a pit stop in Nanaimo, B.C.

Montgomery was also happy that Season 7 crisscrossed the country, adding: “Every time you visit a part of Canada you’ve already been to before, it’s always a new experience.”

After winning Season 7, Anthony Johnson and James Makokis reflected on their championship run saying that they took inspiration from (Season 2 champs) Mickey and Pete.

“They were under the radar, they never got U-turned and they were friends with pretty much everyone,” Johnson said.
