Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini have taken their time nurturing The Attico. It was 2016 when they launched the label, putting their street style credentials behind a collection of sexy party dresses and hosting presentations at hidden addresses across Milan. Then the pandemic came and they shifted to an in-season model, releasing look-books when the clothes were arriving in stores—and it’s quite a list of stores, Saks 5th Avenue, Harrods London, Net-a-Porter, and Ssense among them—in order to capitalize on the momentum that their photos create. Along the way they expanded, adding shoes, bags, accessories, and beachwear.
“We were dressing our women, let’s say, from 8pm to 8am, Giorgia laughed over a Zoom call. “At some point, very naturally, we were like, okay, but what about the other parts of the day?” Now, they say they’re finally ready for the runway. They’ll put on their first-ever show this September at Milan Fashion Week.
“For seven years we have been building a solid base, taking care of all the aspects of the company in order to get to this big moment,” Gilda added. Together the two of them have put together a fashion A-team to make the most of the opportunity. Piergiorgio Del More, whose recent projects include Fendi men’s in Florence and Jacquemus at Versailles, will handle the casting, and Emmanuelle Alt has come on board to style. “It’s great to have someone on our side who is a woman and has so much experience and a great point of view,” Giorgia said of their stylist. So I feel like we are a great unit.”
It’s too soon to discuss the date and location, but they were happy to talk vibes. “Our woman doesn’t want to be closed in a box or to be defined with one style only. She likes to mix, she wants to have fun playing with the clothes,” Giorgia explained. “That’s why we introduced a part of the collection that today is very strong for us: the denim, the cargo pants, that we like to mix very much with our eveningwear pieces. And this is what today is the heart of the brand, this kind of eclecticism and mix of categories and styles that work well together.”
