The Aussie baby names tipped to be HUGE in 2022

After the recent news that Oliver and Isla had taken out top spot on the list of Australia’s most popular baby names for the past two years running, it begs the question – what will knock them off top spot?

BabyCenter, an online media company for prospective and new parents, predicts those two won’t even be in the top 10 next year.

A look at the top 10 boys name last year, from data compiled by WA’s St John of God using local and interstate birth records, revealed a definite lean towards the more traditional.

Oliver was followed by Oscar, William, Noah, Archie and Jack, while equal 10th spot was claimed by Max, Thomas and George.

But BabyCenter believes this year will see a move away from those in boys’ names, and even has a left-of-centre tip for what will be the number one boy’s name.

Albie is the company’s pick for the top male name of 2022, followed by Reggie, Frankie and Edwin.

For the girls, the company believes Isla will tumble down the list and instead tipped Hazel, Olive and Iris to be the top three.

Elizabeth, a name not so much in vogue in recent years, was tipped to be the fifth most popular name of 2022.

There were some unusual predictions in the girls’ list, including Nellie and Tillie, while Mirabel was a curious selection in sixth place – and a nod to a main character in the new Disney movie Encanto.
