The universe of The Hunger Games comes to life again in the first trailer of the highly anticipated prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, a movie based on the most recent book in the saga created by Suzanne Collins, which hits theaters in November.

Based on the novel of the same name, the story centers on a young Coriolanus Snow, who was played by Donald Sutherland in the previous films, long before he became the ruling tyrant of Panem.
During the tenth Hunger Games, Coriolanus must act as a mentor to one of the District 12’s Tributes, Lucy Gray Baird, who has been chosen to compete in the controversial celebration that works as punishment for the districts after the rebellion against the Capitol.
Snow must defend his family’s name now they’re going through a tough time. He has been humiliated by being assigned to such a poor District, so he will have to use all his wit and intelligence to achieve a much-needed triumph, and keep his tribute alive.
Francis Lawrence, who directed the last three films in the original saga, returns behind the cameras to direct Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth, who play the two young leads.
They will be joined by Viola Davis as Volumnia Gaul, the head gamemaker of the tenth edition of The Hunger Games, a role that was filled by Wes Bentley and Philip Seymour Hoffman in the first two installments.
Euphoria star Hunter Schaffer and Game of Thrones veteran Peter Dinklage will also be part of the cast as Tigris and Casca Highbottom, respectively.
The cast also included Jason Schwartzman, Buen Gorman, Fionnula Flanagan, Ashley Liao, and Josh Andrés Rivera.
How The Hunger Games Franchise Could Expand in the Future
Although Suzanne Collins has only written one more book after the original trilogy, the possibilities for The Hunger Games spinoffs are almost limitless.
Considering that of the 75 games that have been celebrated within the mythology of the story, only three have been shown; the two in which Jennifer Lawrence’s character Katniss Everdeen participated and the one of the new protagonist, Lucy. That means there are still 72 possible stories to tell.
Even before the end of the original saga, fans have asked for movies or series that tell the experiences of characters like Haymitch (Woody Harrelson), Finnick (Sam Claflin) or Johanna Mason (Jena Malone) in their participations, as well as the first games or the first Quarter Quill, a special celebration held every 25 years.
Other possible stories would be the first rebellion of the Districts against the Capitol, the events that led to the creation of The Hunger Games, or how District 13 managed to survive and maintain itself over time.
Likewise, life in the different districts or in the Capitol would also be interesting stories to address in the future of the franchise.
For now, fans will be able to enjoy more of the franchise in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which hits theaters on November 17.
